Art makes it seem easy! I wonder if he struggled with any music? Doubtful!

Dear Adhemarcoyote Henri, "Tea for Two" was composed in 1924 by Vincent Youmans (the music) and Irving Caesar (the lyrics). It was used in the 1925 musical "No, No, Nanette", but it was preformed prior to that. Shostakovich wrote his arrangement of it 1927 to win a bet with a fellow composer who challenged him to do it in less than an hour. Shostakovich won the bet (50 Rubles) with 15 minutes to spare. See Wikipedia for most of this though the exact year it was composed is not listed there.

How is it possible to improvise right hand lines that fast and that intricate while the left hand plays walking chord changes spanning a tenth? If I hadn't heard this I would never have believed it possible. The problem is that he makes such a full sound that even today he makes everyone else sound like kids trying to play. I could sit all day listening to that easy lazy swing with effortless cascades rolling everywhere. Thank you also to the person who set about transcribing this particular performance - what a task, but it's my fav of Tatum's t42's.And yeah, when I first heard Art Tatum I realised that guys like this appear less than once in a lifetime. WOW seems a petty understatement.

I'm pretty sure that Tatum plays parallel dominant 7th chords at 0:26 not diminished as it is written in this score... nevertheless they mention there are few irregularities in this score, it sounds great anyways. Though I can't play it, small hands :P

That rhythm... How he goes on to do crazy runs and comes back on track EXACTLY on the spot... Complete swing.1:04 that left hand run and that flow. Amazing.

Great attention should be given to a tea gathering, which we can speak of as "one time, one meeting" (一期一会, ichigo, ichie). Even though the host and guests may see each other often socially, one day's gathering can never be repeated exactly. Viewed this way, the meeting is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. The host, accordingly, must in true sincerity take the greatest care with every aspect of the gathering and devote himself entirely to ensuring that nothing is rough. The guests, for their part, must understand that the gathering cannot occur again and, appreciating how the host has flawlessly planned it, must also participate with true sincerity. This is what is meant by "one time, one meeting."

Art could maybe not see well, but then looking on the other side he could receive a straight inspiration by Liszt. Awesome !
