Man, I really like this, but I don't know why. That's Bowie, I guess

This is by far David's best work in decades. That fact that millions aren't swooning for this means little--this is what Bowie should be doing, aging gracefully and taking the crooner aesthetic into the wilds of avant garde. When he was young he was aged beyond his years . . . which was why it was painful watching him age and try to be the twentysomething he never really was. David was always older and wiser beyond his years, and this is the music he should be playing, like Johnny Mathis or Sinatra gone half mad. Wonderful music David.

I love how he incorporates that miles Davis quartet post-bop feel with arrangement. Only proving how versatile this man really is.

From the perspective of someone who loves jazz music and loves Bowie, this is great. Reminds me so much of film noir.

When I first heard this song, I thought it was absolute crap, which surprised me, because I have loved every piece of work Bowie has put out since Hours.... I love a lot of his original, older works too, but I especially loved all of his newer works, just because Bowie showed he is more than an 80's glam rock icon, and can do other genres if he wants. I liked works off of Outside and Earthling also. I think people are getting lost in the mixing, or the vocals, or the instruments. I personally think he did the song the way he did, with spazmatic instruments and his voice almost trembling and shaking as he delivers each word, because it exemplifies the emotion he wanted the song to have. After listening to this song a few more times, I feel in love with it. Bowie shows, per usual, that he can expand his powerful reach into other genres and be successful.

I knew before that David's voice can fit into jazz.

I think Bowie has lost his ways. He was at his best in the 70s and 80s but then from the 90s he just drifted..

If anyone gives the popular form legitimacy it's fucking Bowie.

Bowie seems lost forever in the B side of Heathen. Yes, there is a lot more action here: interesting horns and an annoying drum track--but Bowie is simply singing over them. He has earned the righr to make terrible music: god bless

The band and arrangement is awesome. It has a Tom Waits darkness that I like.
