Great song by a great musicion Voltaire

Long ago, I went to war

To fight the scourge

Of Christendom

I held aloft my blessed sword

And said,

By God,

Let them come.

They said their eyes

Are red as flame

I heard it told

From hell they came

Their breath is fire

Their tongues are forked

Thus are the beasts

Of Dragon's Gate.

I heard my father's words

Deep in my heart

Son, know your enemy

As I know my son.

The Fates were kind

They let me in

The dragon's lair

The den of sin

I placed my sword upon its heart and with a prayer

I thrust it in.

The dragon fell

Upon the ground

Twas then I heard

A whimpering sound

A dragonling

To his father clung

Who only fought

To protect his young

I heard my father's words

Deep in my heart.

Son know your enemy

As I know my son

And now my son

Is off to war

To fight the new scourge

Of Christendom

He holds aloft his brazen sword

And says

Dad,

Let them come

He swears their eyes

are red as flame

And heard it told

From hell they came

Their breath is fire

Their tongues are forked thus

Are the men of Muslim faith

Son, hear you father clear

deep in your heart

Son, know your enemy

As I would have them know

My son.

I knew this song couple of years ago or earlier,as I listened to it again, I helplessly shed to tears..real-life experiences can sometimes mean deeper like this song.. .

In order to understand your enemies your must first understand yourselves. Know your enemy. As I know my son. It is a message about learning to listen to our enemy that lays within all of us. Our worst enemies reside within ourselves. Don't blame others for having the same enemies as you yourself.

That isn't quite true actually. This song is about the crusades (hence the name) and is from the point of view of a knight who went there believing in the things the church said about the muslims. He then finds out that they are not so different from himself. It then shifts to his son and the things he believes. So in a sense this song is about not believing everything you hear

No, He talks about them AFTER the dragon. People never listen.

Shame really, it's one of the best games for the DS. I had hoped it would become more famous after the iOS port or Dream Drop Distance, but no such luck... I really wish Square Enix would rerelease it (a sequel would be nicer though), but I know that's unlikely.

they represent muslims thats how they were called in the medieval times

This sog points out the persecution of muslims in the crusades as wrong. It's like a speech on how LGBT people shouldn't be bullied, but not doing it because of too many LGBT people

Continuing that train of thought; his father was trying to tell him to realize that his enemies are only human as he is. But the son never took it properly. The father was distant.

Sad...the son was always misinterpreting his father's words, and the son was lost to brainwashing and bigotry, who didn't realize just what he was doing until he finally looked. He thought he was killing dragons...but he was killing men, and his father caused him to go down this path of life. Damn, Voltaire...

I know, I don't see why they don't know much about it. It's such a great game. I can understand the upset feeling you have.

This has nothing to do with your comment: It's obvious you are a fan of The World Ends With You, I know. But, It's so rare for me to see fans out in the open I just had to point out you're a fan.

This was a excellent song and is filled with metaphors

Then in of itself wouldn't be a problem, seeing as the lyrics aren't offensive at all. But it does like it would sound better if an older person sings it. ...Unless you're a father.
