I know it isn't the "original tune", but it is still my favorite crooked still song. So good.

I'm not sure if folks quite appreciate the talent this band had. The integration of Celtic, old Time and Bluegrass, especially with the added bonus of the cello was an awesome product.

I used this version to learn this song. Seems straight forward. Fun song to play.

The lyrics are not Stephen Foster's, but Foster published the same melody with his own lyrics in 1850 under the title, "Angelina Baker." Angelina was one of Foster's minstrel songs. As with "I'll Twine Mid The Ringlets" (published in 1860, evolving into "Wildwood Flower), the song probably drifted from popular sheet music into the folk realm, where the original lyrics disappeared (Angelina) or morphed (Ringlets) after being passed along from singer to singer.

Not a typical old-timey voice, but I love it.

This version wasn't actually written by Stephen Foster; that's a very different version. This version is attributed to Uncle Eck Dunford, recorded in 1928. Perhaps a 'parody' some say.
