Cro-Mags - 'Death Camps' from the album "Best Wishes"

please visit: http://www.cromags.com/

Best Wishes is the second album by New York hardcore band, Cro-Mags. It was released in 1989 on Profile Records and was subsequently re-released on Another Planet along with their debut album, The Age Of Quarrel, on the same disc.

The album's cover reflected the band's interest in the Hare Krishna religion which started with previous singer John Joseph and then carried on through Harley Flanagan who also became a devotee. The Krishna faith was ultimately the demise of the band, as the contradiction of a faith of pacifism against the violence of the band's music was often even too much for the band members to handle. However, before this, in 1992, their next album, Alpha Omega, saw the return of John Joseph to the Cro-Mags fold, and an even further gravitation towards a metal sound.

My first cassette in 1989, knew nothing about the MAGS nor did I hear at that point Age of Quarrel. To me, this is a metal or thrash metal release (reminiscent of the thrash metal bands at the time) with hints of hardcore.

One of the loudest bands I have ever seen in my life if you get a chance to see them live. Had to be over 25 years ago and almost had to call in sick to work cause I couldn't hear shit for two days. An awesome memory of the energy bands from the past had compared to the stale crap today :)

This album has always sounded like Hard Core Punk to me. A very well done album at that! Thrash groups to me sound like Overkill, Anthrax, Kreator, Testament, etc. I can hear a difference.

The Cro-Mags are a hybrid of hardcore and thrash. Good stuff! I remember seeing them at CBGB'S on a Sunday for one of the matinee shows. They were awesome! Makes me still wanna hit someone.

Classic record. Owes a debt to Bad Brains (though who doesn't?) but still puts its own stamp on heavy punk rock.
