I've been listening to this for months, but I've only just realized that at the beginning of the song, the reason the chorus is so joyful is because he feels he can go anywhere and do anything. The only place he doesn't want to go is home. At the end, he realizes he can't go anywhere or do whatever he wants, and he's go no where to go except for home.
