On this day in 1956 {June 16th} the 'Giant Rock 'n Roll Revue' show* began two days of live performances at the Hippodrome Theater in Cleveland, Ohio {the Home of the Rock ‘N Hall of Fame}...One of the acts that performed were Clyde McPhatter, and at the time his "Treasure of Love" was at #25 on Billboard's Top 100 chart...It would peak at #1 on Billboard's R&B Most Played on Jukeboxes chart...Between 1956 and 1964 he would, as a solo artist, have twenty-one Top 100 records; with two making the Top 10, "A Lover's Question" {#6 in 1959} and "Lover Please" {#7 in 1962}...* Must have been a great show; some of the other acts on the bill were Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, The Diamonds, Don Cherry, Lonnie Donegan, and Johnny Burnette...

Most of these oldies seem to evoke a special kind of inspiration, they are with the capacity to prompt a more positive emotional state, that enables one to focus with a greater sense of belief, in ones self.

This is my all time favorite song in more than 60 years of listening to pop music. Sadly I virtually saw Clyde die on stage at the Oakland auditorium he was play in 1972. He was so bad off (drugs, drink, I don't know) that when he tried to sing Easter Parade, instead of White Christmas, he became confused, forgot the words, could not stand up without the microphone stand, and had to be helped off stage mid song. Ben E King finished the song and the set and Clyde never sang again in public, but he did perform this song without problem at the start of the show. he will always be a treasure to be loved/enjoyed.

Bursting forth through the supplemental supplemental chart which is now generating some significant commentary (and teaching yours truly something new almost everyday, unless of course I am doing the teaching), we find yet another sound from the fifties, from the oldie goldie era. The moldie oldie goldies for me represent anything that was a hit before the rock era. The oldie goldie era represents anything that was out from about 1954 - 1963. Oldies are anything since. That is today's definition, however. It might be different tomorrow. The oldie goldie that falls into place at # 3351 is from a young Clyde McPhatter and the name of the song is "The Treasure of Love".
