"Patches" Is One Of The Best "Story" Records Of All Time. As A Kid, I Always Felt Bad For Patches. His Plight Made My One Mile Walk To School (up hill, in the snow, no shoes, etc.) Seem Like No Big Deal! Clarence Carter Took This Great Song All The Way To #4 In 1970. Today, I Am Presenting A Newly Enhanced Version Of The Original Song. Sonically, The Mix Has Been Improved Greatly....Giving It Greater Depth And More Definition. Enjoy!

The real life story of FAME music mogul Rick Hall, sung by the Inspirational Mister Clarence Carter! Thank you Mister Carter for cutting this song for Mister Hall. It has inspired so many young people to continue on to be dependable to make something of themselves.

This is not "digitally enhanced" - the keyboard background has been replaced by a re-recording of it.  The vocals, strings, horns and percussion are the original, as is the harmonica, but the rest of the background is new.

Yep, back in the day before the communists took control. People worked for a living and didn't look to government to fix their lives. Could get tough, but the nation had real wealth and power, and Christian giving kept most from falling between the cracks.

This enhanced version approximates the unreleased mix used in the movie "Muscle Shoals," with the more prominent keyboard work. Nice job, Mike!

I remember the original single version had wonderful strings and harmonica on it and while this is good with the added brass ,it's not   ( excuse the pun ) a patch   on the original

Some guy tried to pawn off the Grammy this song won on an episode of "Pawn Stars". There was no mention if it was stolen or if the Grammy was genuine.

Mike I think this either an alternate mix or the original version has been altered. On my original 1970 lp the backing vocals come in 26 seconds from start and are clearly audible . On this version there are no backing vocals starting at 1:06 on your video (26 seconds after the song starts). There are some backing vocals in other areas but are very faint. Check it and see
