My favorite metal band. I want to know how the bass player got his bass tone. One of the best bass players ever!

Lyrics:I shiver when I rememberThe things that I have seenI know the light, I know the NightI have walked with things unseenI have been a king invincibleI've been the poorest of the poorI've pulled the mighty from their thronesAnd laughed at Death's own door'Cause I'm alive, I'm aliveI'm alive, I'm aliveI roamed the world in search of lifeDeath followed in my wakeI searched for truth, I want the truthAnd learned more than I could takeI've walked the roads of mysteryAnd it's aged me much too soonI've paid the piper and I've paid him wellBut he still calls the tuneI'm aliveI'm aliveI'm aliveI'm aliveI shiver when I rememberThe shadow of the pastThe lonely ways, the lonely daysWhen every breath might be my lastI lost my heart, I lost my soulBy every hand betrayedBut I've still got strength, I've still got lifeAnd that will never change'Cause I'm alive, I'm aliveI'm alive, I'm aliveI'm aliveI'm aliveI'm aliveI'm aliveI'm alive

Jani Lindström

I got their first album decades ago. I was blown away. Also, the guitarist is synonymous with me. He's better than me though at it. Just listening to John Lindstrom is a pleasure and an honor.

Well as I said no disrespect meant :) Cirith Ungol were from CA, they pioneered early US Power Metal and Doom Metal, but they faced many difficulties, mainly lack of support from the labels. So they're quite underground, but very prominent. They made it into several Metal Massacre compilations, so though underground, they're rather well known, prestigeous and respected in metal circles. Did you already receive the records you purchased? Cheers.

Did you try in the end? I stick to my comments, and the title track for me is one of the finest and most emotional tracks in metal ever.

No offense meant, but..., are you new to metal? Cirith Ungol is a cult band. They were formed in 1972 but only released their debut in 1980. One of the first US bands to play European-styled metal, aka early Power Metal, also pioneered Doom metal. But they had to face low budget and lack of support from the label. This band is a must for any serious metal-head, and it's a proof of good taste and knowledge.

Hey I'm just pointing out the irony within your comment haha. I haven't really given Paradise Lost much of a listen so I can't say I have an opinion on the music, but after reading what the drummer had to say about how the label intervened with the music and really messed everything up for them I decided I didn't want to give it a try. But maybe I will since you speak so highly of it.

Indeed, I posted a review to that album myself, for me it really deserves a 100% rating.

Funny you should mention Paradise Lost and the reviews that the drummer did on Metal-Archives because he talks about how terrible of an album it is and that the members had no control over what was happening with the album.

Greg Lindstrom has a band named Falcon they were working on their third album last I checked. Robert Garvin (drummer) retired from playing after Ungol. Tim Baker I read still likes metal and Cirith Ungol, but not interested in a reunion. Jerry Fogel died in 1998, and Michael "Flint" Vujejia is somewhere out there with no interest in a reunion. Best we can hope for is the many decent tribute bands and Greg's band if you can find them.

One of the unluckiest metal bands ever, they had to go through very difficult circumstances even despite of being so talented. And criminally under-rated by many people, even on Metal-Archives . com. Drummer Robert Garven himself posted reviews to some albums there, check them out. The latest to be released was an album with demos and b-sides and the likes. I don't think they play anymore... Sigh. Check paradise lost, their final album. Masterpiece.
