Love that horn.

I've always loved this song. Melodic and hard rocking, with one of the most vicious instrumental breaks on record at that time.

Moon's playing is a perfect mirror for the lyrics. The "circular" pattern fill (throughout), the descending fill (in a whirlpool), and the accenting of key vocals.

It sound like The Who but not. Its this the Fleur The Liz version ? This version is completely unknown to me. Its not the original one, nor the one included on the "Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy" album. Its also not the one included on the double CD version of the first album, released several years ago.

"Circles" was produced by Shel Talmy, with whom The Who broke their contract. While they were in litigation with Talmy, they re-recorded "Circles" as "Instant Party", with Kit Lambert producing. Hence, the two versions, both sharing the title "Circles (Instant Party)". For amusing details concerning the Talmy breach of contract suit & settlement, see Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, The Complete Chronicle of The Who, 1958-1978, by Andy Neill & Matt Kent, Sterling Publishing 2005. This track is yet another rebuke to those persons who claim that Mr Keith Moon had no drumming technique and didn't take any trouble about the tuning of his drums. Bloody codswallop, that!CHEERS!

Has nobody else ever done a stereo remix of this.. ? That is, with the french horn or whatever horn entwhistle plays...I did one some years ago, mixing the reissued stereo version that was missing the horn with the mono version that had it.. unfortunately I have had several hard drive crashes since then and it's gone.. And I sure ain't gonna go through all that aggravation again, It was quite difficult. As , actually, all these remixes have been. So.. has anyone seen a stereo remix.. I mean , a legitimate one, not a quick "fake stereo" version...

Great song! Great band!Keith Moon, probably after John Bonham, the best drummer of the world, no doubt about that!

@Todd Larson--this is the version I was referring to, except it seems to have been played at two fast a speed; whether this occurred in the transfer from analogue to digital format I have no idea....the uploader's turntable could have issues with it's belt or speed control or whatever...still a great version, though!
