Chris Knight is a great American story teller. He writes 4 minute short stories which carry the listener across the great American landscape. He surveys the good and bad in us all. Broken Plow was written after he read Grapes of Wrath. He summed up John Steinbeck's great American novel in 4 and 1/2 minutes. His earlier work was often about violence, but as he has matured he has sought the redemption America promises. He writes what he sees and experiences. There is indeed great violence and devastation out there. But there is also the beautifully melancholy redemption found in songs like Love and a .45 - 'One will kill you, one will keep you alive,' but Chris does not say which will do which, or when.

your right connslvr. I would never had heard him on the air. PANDORA is the place to hear the real artists. I heard him on my Billy Joe Shaver station. I turn my friends on to this and they see that country AINT cmt or FM b.s. and there are real artists that can still get a chance to be heard regadless of the nashvegas machine. Buy a record...feed the boy.

It's nice to hear some honest lyrics from a true artist. I can't figure out why it's not on the radio, but maybe the days of heartworn highways and sorrow are gone. Nobody wants to know about the hard times any more.

@hecklovetch Growing up in california in the fruit and veggie belt I grew up and lived with these Okies and loved all them.. They taught me how to hunt and fish. They taught me the lessons of life and being humble. As well as this great tradition of folk music and the "Story" of the Americana songs. Great story in this song and yes indeed its the forgotten tale of "Dust bowl" and "Grapes or Wrath" My first book ever read by me.

@TechyVidz I'm in N.J. so it was a real treat for me to see him in Manhattan this winter. I bought all his c.d.s. Even ones I already had , just to have him sign them.

If it wasn't for Texas, Chris would be back working in mine reclamation. If he had to live off his Kentucky shows....he would starve to death! CK's management is in Nashville and that is where he got his start. Most of his best songs have been co written by some of the biggest writers in Nashville. Seems like CK is starting to distance himself from the kind of songs that made me a fan. Sadly, after trying to book him locally and failing, I do not listen to his music as much as I use to.
