During Wintergrass 2014, the Fretboard Journal magazine conducted a vintage guitar workshop featuring Chris "Critter" Eldridge and Julian Lage. These two powerhouse guitarists were given a couple of dozen rare and vintage guitars to try out and discuss. It was a magical 90 minutes of music and guitar talk.

This tune stands out as one of many highlights: Critter singing "Someone to Watch Over Me" while Lage plays on one of the earliest Gibson L-5s ever made.

This is so good... SO good. Imo, this is how a jazz standard should sound. Not overly "slick," not practiced-to-death, not rehearsed-to-death, not produced-to-death. Rather, it comes to *life*, because all that other stuff is out of the way, and the song can breathe, and the improvisation must carry a life of *its* own, played - in this case - by a master player. And the lyrics sung with such pure feeling by Chris Eldridge. Wow - more - bravo : )

Trombonology Erstwhile

I had the pleasure of hearing this virtuosic pair last year in Ann Arbor, MI. "Someone" was a highlight of the show -- no mean feat, for two stellar instrumentalists who weave so masterfully around each other on their guitars.
