I was a big fan of Pete's old group, The Exceptions, after kal David left to form The Rovin Kind, with Paul Cotton.My being a top tenor voice, who played trumpet, at 22 yrsold, I tried to learn bass. I tried to study with Pete, because of our similar range, but because I was new, he recommended a friend of mine. I beat-up my Dan Electro, for mos., but couldn't sing lead, while playing bass, so I quit.playing. Mos later, @ Wine & Roses, Robert asked me. I told him Pete was the guy. Frank Huber.

You can argue all you want about the merits of Champlin's talents, good or bad. But there's this little inconvenient truth called record sales. And, sorry, there's no arguing with the buying public. Records sales slipped precipitously into the shitter after 17, where they remain to this day.

Amen, Brother !!! I loved his voice the first time I heard it on SONS. I also don't know why everyone' s so critcal of Jason.( The NEW kid, bass player) He wasn't the cocky one who quit to go solo, because he was such a star !!! Guess you can tell, I'm still pissed at Cetera !! Wish I could have played as much bass as Pete, back then, when Robert asked me to try-out on Monday. I suggested Cetera. He auditioned Tuesday...I still can't play ! Even at my 67 years I'd still be playing, if I could !!

I think you fail to realize, Bill was picked, because he was the most talented one available to fill the great loss of Terry. I caught this line-up, with Marty Grebb also sitting-in, at Poplar Creek, and was blown-away. Apparently you don't realize what was expected of him, an already accomlished writer and performer, to join an entity like they had formed, to merely try to "sound like TERRY"!!! With him, they had the closest thing to the original 7. I'm just sorry, he only did it 28 years !

@funkbro8 This was 1984 before Tool Time, His assistant Tim Taylor was partying around with the coke back then backstage. Bob Villa was right outside selling Sears siding, and the remodling boom in Germany started to take off. Then the 3 of them started Home Improvement.
