It is written by John Herrmann, one of the musicians on this cd. It is said these three were so taken with the book, Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier, that they wanted to make a companion cd. This is prior to both the movie and the movie soundtrack for Cold Mountain. The album is filled with authentic music styles you could hear throughout the mountains during the Civil War period and before. You can hear it now if you are extremely lucky. Cherokee Trail is an original tune written by John Herrmann, the banjo player on this cut...I love this tune, but it is definitely was not a tune you would have heard in the mountains during the Civil War...but, IMHO, the spirit of the tune evokes that timeRelated Videos
