"B'wana She No Home" a cover of the Michael Franks tune from his "Sleeping Gypsy" album is the first track from the Carpenters' 1977 album "Passage."

'Passage" was Richard's response to the music critics who dismissed the Carpenters' sound as syrupy elevator music. The album featured a wide range of musical genres - jazz, country, show tunes, lilting ballads, and synthesized rock.

For this video, I used the video of Karen singing "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song."

I would like to know how they communicated with Dr. Michael Franks with getting permission to record it. This tune shows an untapped side of Karen. Miss you Karen.

*Karen Carpenter's response to music critics dismissing Carpenters' sound as syrupy elevator music* *Outstanding jammin' jazz-fusion from their most eclectic album "Passage" (1977). Electric!**B'WANA SHE NO HOME: Rare side of Karen Carpenter the public didn't know* *You'll have a hard time sitting still to this one. This song falls outside the boundaries of Carpenters' stereotype.* (*I like it so much I used it in both my novels...the first one about Karen Carpenter, of course.)*Carpenters - B'wana She No Home Don't you ever invite your boyfriend hereI like to be here aloneYou just answer the door and feed the deerAnd fight the telephoneGot to learn these words and I know you willOr I'll send you right back to GuayaquilSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeGot to peel your eyes for the heat, my dearYou got to froth and foamGot to send away the mad puppeteerWho seems to think this is homeI want you to speak the English rightI want you to smile and be politeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeI don't care if you drive my three fifty, honeyDon't let them steal my chromeI don't care if you spend all my money, honeyLong as you leave me aloneI just want you to try and remember one thingIf somebody knocks or the telephone ringsSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no homeSay b'wana she no home

Despite many other numbers which are better known, this is my absolute favourite. The magical timbre of Karen's voice and the pulsating music has come together beautifully to create a timeless classic. Wish audio quality was better.

still the most beautiful I have ever heard...the genre means nothing..it is however tragic that she died as she was about to show us what she could really do...as for Richard he is up there with the best producers and arrangers a master..at his craft..screw the critics i dont care what they think either

I could never stand the Carpenters. I had no idea they covered this song, as I've always adored Michael Franks. This is actually a pretty good cover.

This is the MOST absolute piece of music of the Karen amd Richard stuff that they put out there. So complex..... so tough, so sexy, so out there..... I just love it!!!!!

Great track, but ruined by a horrible mix. Why did they choose to mix this song in MONO? What were they thinking?

The real truth here is Richard never cared about critics, or having to prove to people how good they were- but "YES" if there was a way to through it back into the critics face, Passage was the Album. I think its fair to say I know a few things about things about Richard that many people may not know. The Hall of Fame is the obvious explaination point on a career, but they can kiss, that's ok Neil Sadaka & even Kiss get screwed every year too. How we recognize talent today is a crime.
