Simon is an idiot. Blackbird is a METAPHOR as were other objects in songs from the White Album. Just like "Piggies". Blackbird is a beautiful, soulful song, and I thought it was great that she chose to take a chance and play it to the mainstream. This was beautiful.

It just shows what Simon knows about music, 'you chose a song about a Blackbird'. Its not literally about a blackbird you idiot, its a metaphor about black civil rights and racial tensions in america during the time he wrote it. The lyrics are genius and not 'self indulgent' at all simon. How many great songs have you written? huh? ok rant over,, and btw i thought this was a great version!

I usually agreed with Simon for the most part, but he clearly was on crack when evaluating this performance. How was the song choice "indulgent?" Her explanation for choosing the song was the perfect riposte to his lame remark. Regardless, she did a lovely job with the song: emotionally connected; controlled but relaxed.
