Carl Perkins performs "Blue Suede Shoes" live at the Farm Aid concert in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 7th, 1990. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

I covered this event for television and was talking with Carl a few minutes before he went to the stage to do this set. When he left the press area, every star who was there - Willie, Mellencamp, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Jackson Brown, John Denver, and the rest - followed him up and stood in the wings watching him rock the house.
