British band Candlewick Green appeared on UK TV talent show Opportunity Knocks winning for some 8 consecutive weeks.

They obtained a record contract as a result and released a few singles but this 1974 single was their only UK top 30 hit.

The track is co-written by Des Dyer of UK band Jigsaw ( `Sky High` fame ) who shared the same management as Candlewick Green. Jigsaw had recorded the track as a future album track . Candlewick Green asked if they could record a cover and release it as a single. Jigsaw agreed and Candlewick Green had their only charting hit.

UK singles -

1973 Doggie

1973 Sunday Kinda Monday

1974 Everyday of My Life

1974 Leave A Little Love

1974 Who Do You Think You Are?

1975 Last Bus Home

1976 Sign of the Times

In the USA Who Do You Think You Are was a hit for Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods .

It's interesting there were THREE versions of this song that came out in the 1974: This one, Jigsaw's original version (though neither version was released in the US to my knowledge) and Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods as the follow-up to their #1 "Billy Don't Be A Hero."

Candlewick Green's version is best just ahead of Jigsaw.I don't like St.Etienne's version.I think they ruin it!

Loved this version and the version by Jigsaw who's drummer wrote the song. 2 different versions but both great. St Etienne version from the States, not that good

good song and brought to a whole new audience in the 90s when Saint Etienne covered it!!

One of the best pop songs ever written. So good the star maker machinery behind Spice Girls wiped it off Wikipedia, replaced by overblown PR for their song of the same name, which is pathetic drivel compared to this. I like both versions, would love to hear the Jigsaw recording. I am working on this for my solo act, guitar with vocal.

Great song! This version was THE HIT in Scandinavia in the 70's.

Impressively good song for just an 'ordinary' band. Shows how much talent there was around on the streets in Britain in those days.

Will somebody please upload the Candlewick Green single "The Last Bus Home"? It's really difficult to find on the Internet. I already have "Who Do You Think you Are", but I like "The Last Bus Home" better.

I've never heard this version before. I'm American. But I know the Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods version. I much prefer the Donaldson version.
