Performance of 'Canadee-i-o' trad. arr. Nic Jones from Penguin Eggs. Guitarists, see 'how to' video for tips on how to play this song. www.samcartermusic.co.uk

This video -- in conjunction with my 'how to' video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAOny7J33Lk&feature=related -- is intended to shed light on Nic Jones' arrangement of Canadee-i-o, and is something I've chosen to post online as a guitar teacher as well as a Nic Jones enthusiast.

In contrast, as an artist I perform my own material as well as my own versions of traditional songs. As such, I don't play Nic's arrangements at my own gigs. You can find videos of many of my own songs among my uploaded videos.

This is staggeringly good. I'm a relatively new comer to Nic Jones but utterly hooked and never expected to find such a fantastic cover of Canadee-i-o on Youtube - vocals are the icing on the cake here. Thanks for recording.

Wonderful. This takes me back to the early 80s when I ran the university folk club in Brum. We ran the club in the PIG hut (Post Graduate Centre) which was a wooden hut and very atmospheric and intimate. Nic was one of the guests we had. He was just amazing in that setting. Great to hear this song live again after all these years.

Great rendition Sam - and some great tips in your other video; which I'm doing my best to absorb and practice on my Little Martin that I bought especially for the purpose of keepin' me hand in on the ol' acoustic! (I thought I had John Martyn's 'May You Never' down fairly pat ... but this is a completely another league!) Anyway it's a fantastic song and I was really impressed with your voice too (which was unexpected as I'd watched your tips video first...) Hats off to you sir!

excellent playing Sam , good cornish accent boy but the perfect version of this song would be your Guitaring paired with Dylans vocals.

I know you posted this ages ago, and you're probably not checking for comments anymore, but if you have a minute to help out, I'd be grateful. This is a lovely rendition and I've been working on one myself. Naturally, the timing of the "and 1" is tricky, especially paired with the middle finger flick. It seems like he and you are doing something different in terms of timing on the bass strings on the verse than during the first instrumental break (the one after the very first verse). I can hear and play what you're doing during the break, but when I attempt the same thing during the verse, it feels clunky. Thanks for considering a reply and thank you for reviving one of my very favorite songs.

Great piece, and a beautiful rendition. I've always loved this style of playing and song, seeing people such as Martin Carthy and Dave Burland in my youth, so it's great to see the tradition continue.
