Musically Calexico is all over the map (they list as their influences Portuguese fado, 50's jazz, gypsy music, 60's surf and spaghetti western epics, among others). But when they made their debut on the Austin City Limits stage on September 13, 2006, their latest record, Garden Ruin, had taken them in new directions that even founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino might not have imagined when they first started recording over 10 years ago. After a decade of creating an eclectic sound that evokes images of sun-scorched rocks and windswept deserts, Calexico pulls a few surprises out of their musical bag to fill those dusty, empty landscapes with a big, big sound.

Wow ! I didn't know that .... I knew this was a song by Love ... many years passed. I think this band does a nice job here (who else would have picked this song out) ? Nobody !! That's why I give Calexico credit, mainly for being so gosh darn cool ........11 years ago

Bryan MacLean wrote this song and it appeared on Love's Forever Changes album. Brian was the second guitarist and songwriter with Love and this was his favorite song. It took two years to write and he spent many hours arranging the horns and strings. However Arthur Lee remixed it to bring his own vocals to the forefront and, according to MacLean, ruined the true melody. Bryan never forgave him. All the cover versions we hear these days feature Lee's harmony vocal in front of the melody.11 years ago
