This is the rocking version of, "Rock Around With Ollie Vee", recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Bradley's Barn when Buddy was on the Decca label. The song was penned by Buddy's friend and band mate at the time, Sonny Curtis. To me this song defines the rockabilly sound. This song probably would have been a hit if Buddy and the boys recorded it with Norman Petty. Enjoy :) Rave On!

This is the only version of this sound Ive ever heard. We even had it on our local pub jukebox 35 years ago along with johnny Burnette and gene Vincent to name a few.

I would have loved to have heard The Cramps cover this. Such an obvious influence. But now, Buddy and Lux are probably singing it somewhere as a duet.

Both versions are rocking, I think.

Maybe of interest: and it's the worst-ever Hollywood movie for period-correct instruments and amplifiers. Persevere for three or four minutes...

Great song, one of my favorite Holly recordings even though it was obvious Decca was trying to duplicate the Sun sound.

@Jarski J. Ollie Vee is the guy they're rockin' out with in the middle of the nite. Duh.

His Decca sides were the best of his recordings. I wish I'd bought more of the Brunswick UK releases in the 50s. The Coral stuff became more and more "pop".

EXACTLY i agree 1000% now we got people yelling b.s into the mic, what happened to the good ol' care free days of the 1950s i know theres going to be the people who say stuff about minoritys in the 50s but i dont care, thats not what this comment was about so id thank you kindly not to say stuff about your minority family in the 1950s, this comment was to say something that NEEDS AND SHOULD BE HEARDD BY EVERYONE! -Rave on, one satisfyed buddy holly fan
