This is an early variant of Thunder Road. BS did this a lot: different lyrics, melodies. Along with TR, there are parts of Born to Run, and She's the One in this one song. Fascinating to see the creative process at work. Love the piano and the extended horn solo!

These are some great tracks you're putting out. I wonder if fans might have been better served than they were with "Tracks" with a series of CDs such as "The Alternate Born to Run." We could have gotten alternative versions and unreleased tracks from each LP -- I think these definitely hold interest and work on their own.

Yeah I know. I do the same (not to compare my songwriting skills to those of Bruce in anyway - it's just a hobby) It just struck me as more likely that way, though it is, of course, possible that it did indeed start out as some sort of outro, but then he thought "Hey, this is good enough to base a whole song around", just to later change his mind again.

Bruce has always said his songs are like fixing old cars. You take a piece of one to see if it fits into another. I don't think the other band members know how he pieces things together. They just do what he says.....

Doesn't it seem more likely the other way around? He needed some sort of ending to Thunder Road and knew he wasn't going to use this song, so he borrowed a part for Thunder Road. Hard to really know, I guess.

notice how one springsteen outtake is better, has more talent, and is more successful than the careers of nicki minaj, lil wayne, skrillex, one direction, katy perry, fergie, and all those other shitty modern musically talented idiots combined.

i heard some thunder road in this. i love listening to outtakes and seeing chords and notes and lyrics he takes from one out take and puts them in a song that ends up on the album!

This still has the "Greetings From Asbury Park" slow, Jazzy feel, with a prominent organ. Bruce wanted to evolve. So he sped it up and made it a more mainstream rocking sound.

The Intro is right out of Thunder Road.
