The difference is that it's incorrect. Songs should be attributed to the people who wrote them, not just whoever might have lived relatively close to the time of their writing. Also, Bruce Springsteen is from America, where much, much more than 47% of people have heard of Stephen Foster and especially Francis Scott Key, so he should know better.

Mistake on the composer's name doesn't at all reduce the value of this song and Bruce's interpretation of it.

Stephen Foster must be rolling around in his grave. This rendition of a great song sucks. Bruce Springsteen should be ashamed not to get his facts right about the song, especially the composer's name. SHAME ON YOU!! Blowing your nose on stage...what the hell is wrong with you?

Bruce says it's written by "Francis Scott Key"!!! LOL. OOPS! Sorry, Bruce, it's written by Stepen C. Foster in 1854. Key of course wrote the Star Spangled Banner in 1814, and died before Foster wrote "Hard Times."
