A versão original encontra-se no álbum "Why Dontcha", de 1972. O power trio composto por dois terços do Mountain e pelo excepcional baixista e vocalista Jack Bruce (Cream) lançou dois discos de estúdio e um ao vivo, sendo Why Donctha o primeiro e mais cultuado deles.

What a treat to find this over of West, Bruce & Laing. The singer has the best Leslie West growl I have heard, and I’m sure Leslie would enjoy if you sent this to him. For a 3 piece, you have a huge sound with lots of power on the guitars. Bassist is really channeling Jack’s signature riffs and ideas. The nimble bass playing sounds really good with the lead guitar doing slide, and later when the singer chime’s Leslie and says-“Go, Jack - GO!” he does a nice bass section on the solo. The staggered rhythm lick at the end, has always been one of my favorites and thanks for attempting it. All of you did good, but I would have the drummer put a little more meat on the bones, perhaps even more than Corky did. That was a real treat, guys- thank you!7 years ago
