West,Bruce & Laing - Politician

Mountain was originally dubbed the 'American Cream' so I suppose it was natural and inevitable that tey would one day merge.

Too bad they only lasted 15 minutes..Probably too much booze and brown heroin being smoked (or so the story goes)

This is from Live n Kickin released in 1974.

I think it's safe to assume that this was recorded in 1973 but I don't know the actual date and location.

Great number. Too bad Bruce's heroin habit and Wests excesses blew this dynamic trio up.

One of my favorite versions of Politician. There all good, some more lively than others. But if you stack them in a pile- this live version wins for me. The live Rory Gallagher version also on YouTube is fantastic too, full of interplay and improv. The chemistry between Leslie and Jack here is on fire. No selfishness in the solos- 2 guitarists in total sync with each other. That middle solo section is pure gold.

Was at a show in DC. Jack was to drunk to play! Blues saracino sitting in for west. Got my money back! Let down by one of my heroes! Rip jack.

@TumbrelJockey YASSIR, had a similar collision with a hashish pipe in Evanston on that tour, I believe. I was front row corner, right under Jack. Took me a week to stop the ringing in my head. :,)

leadguitarman9 is right. I was there and taped the whole concert for my enjoyment. Took the vinyl and the tape and played them together. Note for note. No editing at all. I discovered this years later when someone else told me.
