Poor baby. He doesn't want to commit to this woman, who is so important to him, that losing her is the worst thing he can imagine happening to him. He's an idiot. I didn't think that way when I was 20 when this song came out but 40 yearsd later, all I can say is like Hymon Roth in "Godfather ll": "This is the life you chose".Stop whining.

This song is an all time classic. Sometimes I listen to this song continuously for over five hours with YouTube Repeater while I'm doing work around the house! The song evokes strong emotions for me regarding my mother. When I hear the song I think about the special guy who was in my mother's life in her early years. She didn't wait for him and married someone else. My Mom's first husband passed away a few years after being married. My Mom never got over this special guy from her early life and she discovered over the years from his family that he never got over her. It was very sad. The song makes me cry sometimes when I play it as my Mom recently passed away in 2014 on Mother's Day.
