Bring On The Night by The Police from Reggatta de Blanc (1979)

Bring On The Night was released in the fall of 1979 on the Police's 2nd album, Reggatta de Blanc. This album features the band's first two number 1 hits, "Message in a Bottle" and "Walking on the Moon".

I was a huge fan of The Police, especially for those first two amazing records. I can so clearly remember buying the debuts from The Police and Dire Straits (they were released within a few weeks of each other) and just being thrilled at the incredible, distinct and stylish songs these bands were bringing. I impatiently awaited the next effort from these exciting new bands. When both bands then released their sophomore efforts the next year (Dire Strait's Communique in June '79 a few months before Reggatta de Blanc in October), I felt that both substantially upped the ante and outdid their debuts.....Communique and Reggatta de Blanc remain my favorites from the respective groups.

The experience of listening to them both sets so much at the same time in my life (at the very end of my high school years with the first, and at the first year of college with the second) will keep The Police and Dire Straits and their first couple of albums bound to each other in my memory.

I mentioned in the description of my video for BOC's "I Love The Night" that there were 5 "night" songs that I'd been trying to reconcile which concept/effects was best suited to which song......songs that had all been on the burner for way too long as I continually delayed until I figured out which video to make for each. This is the second of my "night" videos and it uses elements created for the earlier video, although I did try and make it unique. The next video will maybe build on both and each subsequent "night" video will compound all that came earlier...maybe for interesting effect? Whatever....it's just something I'm thinking /playing with.

"Bring On The Night" is my first finished video for a song by The Police, but it's certainly not the first I've STARTED!? LOL! Anyway, maybe I'll finish one of the others soon. I seem to remember there being an official video for this song, and I remember not liking it very much. It's been a couple of years since I've seen it and I cannot find it now, but think the concept was the band in some exotic foreign place, seem to recall marketplaces, fruit stands? walking in the dark? something? maybe?....anyone? I might have imagined the whole thing?....it happens! :-)
