so he doesn't ruin the finish, after years of your arm rubbing against a guitar, it'll take off the finish

anybody know why andre tapes off that section of his guitar? ..

Yes André is an briliant guitar player and musician . But hes under rated becouse of he plays only what suits the music . People want to hear fast guitarist with no feeling of the music .

the cabinets are in the recording room. it wouldn't be good to sitting right next to them, since they will be cranked up (feedback) and it is easier to communicate. so the amp heads are in the control room for sound tweaking and the cabinets are not. plus I guess they split the signal before going into the ENGL heads for possible re-amping.

@InnerMessiah The problem is, the golden rule (the one that makes sure that the lead guitarist plays a completely different line compared to the rhythm guitarist, that's actually through the entire songs, not the solos) is vanishing. Nowadays I'm fearing that Andre will play along with the rhythm guitarist until the solo, just like all the other bands. UGH.

@InnerMessiah He's one of the best I think. His style is just mor melody than speed. And as you can see on bands like Dragonforce, speed doesn't mean big talent.

I love how at first it seems like his playing isn't that clean when he's figuring out his parts, then he starts recording and just tears it up. The ol' bait and switch.

There's one thing I particularly love about this video: André is sometimes critizised for his lack of shredding - on this version of the Wheel of Time solo we see that he easily -can-, but just doesn't want to most of the time. Compare it with the final solo in the song: It's got almost no shredding. Because he just considers it not appropriate for the song. That's what makes a real musician.
