Rage Against The Machine, "Killing In The Name Of" guitar lesson. We're using an MXR Distortion III for this full bodied riff. In live performances, you can see Tom Morello staying with the neck pickup of his Telecaster, so we chose a distortion that remains defined in this configuration. Also, the Distortion III has an uncompressed distortion and its tone control preserves the low end at higher settings, which is ideal for a round, clear tone. Killing In The Name Of is one of many RATM riffs tuned to Drop D and although straight forward, the song's multiple time changes can be challenging. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.

This video simultaneously shows the amazing talent and creativity of both Andy and Tom Morello! Tom morello for thinking this up in the first place and Andy for covering it so perfectly

He uses a humbucking single coil, so everyone is correct.

You do know tom plays the same telecaster on every drop d song (quite a few of them) on every record he's ever done right? -.-

You can't use a Telecaster to play Rage Against the Machine! That is sac-religious!

in fact andy has declared that some times he uses a pick for some demos

It is not a 52 tele, it is a Telebration Mahogany Telecaster

He is 100% using a pick in this video.

Do a little research, Andy does not use a pick. It "LOOKS" like he's using one but he doesn't. As strange as it may appear, he's that good.

At first I was disappointed with the song choice... Then I started playing it and was like yeahhh

He is using a pick. Can't you see that red thing between his thumb and his index finger, He palms it when he plays with his other fingers. It sounds fine to me. He is just playing it slower so people will have an easier time learning the riff.

This is not a slam on Andy but this style of playing finally shows his limitation playing without a pick. That's not bad considering almost every other demo is awesome. The attack and clarity is not there. The speed is suffering also(not when he intentionally slows down to teach the riff). YES! he's a million times better than I am, let's get that straight!
