In his youth Der Bingle was a true great warbler. Sadly when he aged he became a groaner. For instance the song "White Christmas" was a song associated with him, But eventually he actually started moaning. Johnny Mathis now owns it , as well as most yuletide songs

First, Prima's famous song was "Please No Squeeza Da Banana " However he wrote the great classic Sing Sing Sing. But it took the great arranger with Benny Goodman, Henderson, to take the song to perpetuity. I always wondered why Bing's contemporary and rival Russ Columbo never covered "Gigolo". He had the good looks of a Gigolo but I guess it's tough to cover what was to become a standard

When I was a young fellow back in the 50's, three days a week they played Crosby records on the radio. I believe that it was from 5 - 6 in the evening. I never missed it. That is where I heard those fabulous recordings from the 30's. There was one like him. He was Christmas for me beginning in the 40's. As for his personal life he was no different from any other person growing up in the early part of the 20th century. I also would have like to have had a drink with him. He could sing anything with anyone. Listen to Dinah with the Mills Brothers. They were great but he was right there.

Louis Prima had a hit with this song and Louis Armstrong, as usual, did justice to it by Crosby is my favorite, 1931,The Depression, long before I was born but it feels great.
