Sometime you don't need lyrics to make a great song.

A poignant, heartfelt instrumental from Billy Joel. He was only 22 at the time, a genius from the beginning.

The piano man showing off his God given talent. I have never heard this song before and I love it. So versatile!

We always look for Billy the performer... we always overlook the great composer. Behind his notes and stories always a deep sense of humanity. Sometimes is hard to hold my tears... that's the effect of his music. Chapeau Maestro!!

Simple melody, but hauntingly beautiful. You can imagine his depression and the late nights he was up, wondering and worrying. Thanks for posting, what I think, is his best work (first four albums).

I had only bought singles (45's) until I heard, "Piano Man" and knew I had to buy this guy's album. All I could find was his earlier allbum, "Cold Spring Harbor" which I fell in love with. I don't care at what wrong speed it was recorded the songs are unbelievable and this one is the best, coming on the album right after, "Tomorrow is Today" as if that song was written as the perfect intro to 'Nocturne'. Only "And So It Goes" comes close. You're the best, Billy Joel, the best.
