One of my all time favorite tunes. The title above is incomplete. It should be Meanwhile Back At The Ranch/Should I Smoke.

An incredible finish to Badfinger's best LP!! So much emotion comes out in the vocals and Pete's guitar playing. Chris Thomas was their best producer, and I love Todd Rundgren (who produced Straight Up and other BF tunes)....on this LP Chris Thomas had the lads combine parts of each other's songs together ala "Without You", to make one of the greatest albums of all-time!! Yes, really!

Agree with comments about Abbey Road side 3. I picked up both Badfinger (Warner) and Wish You Were Here from a cut out discount rack in Sam Goody in late 1975 while looking for Straight Up, which was not available in the US as Apple had stopped distributing. I eventually found a German import in the West Village. While Icicles and Lonely You were nice tunes, the production and writing were somewhat lacking on Badfinger as they were rushed back into the studio just months after completing Ass. Wish You Were Here is a masterpiece, and as I listened to this in the late 70's , I couldn't stop myself from thinking, " does anyone else in the world know how good this really is ?". The question is, why didn't it get more airplay ? How could all of those know it all DJ's on WPLJ and WNEW ignore this during the great days of deep tracks and noncommercial radio ? Anyway, appreciate you circulating this treasure !

Que temazo no me canso de escucharlo, una lástima lo de Bafinger debería ser mucho mas reconocida por su calidad musical que por su trágica hisotria, este disco es geniaal

It really doesn't get any better than this. RIP Pete, Tommy, & Mike!

Does it bother anyone else that Pink Floyd used the same album name which went on to fantastic success the next year? Where is the justice for these poor (& more deserving) guys?

The interlude of this song was written and lead sung by Joey Molland. For some reason, it's titled "Should I Smoke," although that line is given in the Pete Ham-penned "Meanwhile..." Molland wrote some great songs for Badfinger, just that none of them had the ultimate pop hooks which Pete Ham wrote.

This album was recorded at Caribou Ranch studio in Colorado. At the time Badfinger knew their contract with Stan Polley was bad, that they were being ripped off. This song expresses a lot of the anger and frustration they were feeling. Warner Bros. records later took this album off the shelves after Polley had stolen the funds WB had advanced. The album was unavailable to the public for many years, though critics felt it was Badfinger's best.

A great medley a/la the Beatles on Abbey Road - this captures Badfinger at it's best with the help of George Martin producing...this stuff is great as we all go into the commercialism that is called "Christmas" these days...

I am with you Amber. Badfinger forever!! Pete Ham was a musical rarity. Loved Badfinger since 1970 when I first heard 'No Matter What'. I wish the Bands here in my home town, would play some of their songs, but no.

The vocals on Meanwhile Back at the Ranch, the producing on both songs, and just Pete Ham in general, are perfection! Wow! I gotta try and find WYWH on vinyl, maybe ask for it for Christmas. Badfinger forever!!

The interlude from 3:04 to 4:13 in this song is nothing short of exquisite. I've been playing it over and over; I am absolutely enthralled with it. The times when I discover music like this are high points of my life, peak experiences. I mean, I used to listen to these guys when I was younger, but now I truly appreciate how singular and special their music is. It has become an indelible part of my spirit.

All of these guys were immensely talented and creative, but Pete Ham was in particular. You can call him a musical genius, yes, but I think it goes beyond even that. It wasn't just a cerebral process with him; his creations emerged from deeper inside- from his soul itself. That's one reason that they will endure for many, many, many years to come. They speak beautifully of the human experience, of the joy and pain of life, of the quest to become who you really are.

Man, you're right about Dennis- yet another masterpiece by these guys! But, then again, it seems like every song I hear by them is a masterpiece.

If there is any justice in the world at all, every member of this band, once they all have passed away, will be playing for mesmerized crowds of millions up there, while that rancid demon Polley's flesh is burning off eternally in the unquenchable fires of hell.

Yep. I listen to this song, and so many of their others, and wonder how in the heck they came up with them. Theirs is a stunning catalog of the very, very best of popular/rock music.
