From their 1993 Album With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness

Catch the rainbow if you can

It will always be ahead of you

Years passing swifter than you ever thought

Today will soon be behind you

And the future remains out of reach

Hunting the sun, setting at the horison

When shadows threat to swallow your weak soul

The key of light, the solution of all

I saw it clearly behind the veil of reality

And as I dreamed the lilies white

In the shade of a birch

They withered in the frost of awakening

Fiery the angels fell from the spires of my fortress of youth

Silent explosions in my universe of pain

Appease my hunger, defeat my solitude

And let me follow where daydreams go

When ambitions fall

Watch the sky, there is proof of your transcience

The stars that saw the birth ofour ancestors

Shall watch our descendants last steps on earth

So, unnoticed we will pass away,

Like a flickering in the perpetual chaos

The timebird rose from it's nest of bones

And thrust it's beak in my eye

With the beat of charging wings

My transcience was confirmed

Time perhaps for a salutary sleep

I still long for that silent land of dreams

Where the flames expire, where the spark fades

And hunger is born again

Absolute masterpiece. If you don't think this is a masterpiece, i'm sorry but you are a useless retarded walking piece of shit, with no clue about good music.

More credited for pioneers of MDM, but yeah, they did death metal at first.

the funny part is that their illegal but yet the government can't stop the production of magic mushrooms because they grow wild like almost everywhere in the world xD. the government is scared of those that have expanded their conscious because they know that if you do that then you can totally recognize more of the bullshit and see through it too. that's why its illegal pretty much imo at least.

where im from in australia they grow everywhere during summer. nothing like tripping in what looks like the shire off lord of the rings with hundreds of gold tops surrounding you, i dont think its about the government hating you, id say its just they love you the way you are. unadulterated by non linear models of perception.

check out the linear notes on suicidal final art. it wasnt til i started having bad trips that the energy of this album made sence. it's angry it has to teach us this, that we once knew how to live, we have allowed ourselves to forget the true nature of being human. that the key is living in balance, with every aspect of our existance. and analyzing every primal urge, every thought you think, every pattern you find yourself in.

in fact its so good, im convinced he didnt even know what he was saying. going off everything he's written lyrically after it.

the lyrical content appeals to me the most. it's something they really lost after this album. it tears me up when i hear such predictable and repetitive words on the later albums. like for fucks sake, i truly feel like the majority of people that like ATG wouldnt even recognise the acuity of what he is saying. removal of ego, perception of earth as a singular consciousness, the cycle of life and death through a neutron star, karma, the mechanical nature of humans. seriously, this albums insane

They probably just wanted to go with a more stream-lined and thrashy approach. Even early on, it's clear that they love thrash, and with the direction Tompa took after AtG (and the Discharge cover at the end of the album) they also clearly love punk.

@quarbio Interestingly enough, I listened to this entire album last night on my ipod in complete darkness. I even thought to myself, "Man, this album sounds like it was inspired by psilocybin" (I myself have tripped twice on shrooms). So, you just confirmed that for me!

@quarbio That's awesome! I never knew that about Tomas. I really wish shrooms were legal... it's a damn shame that they're not! Our government hates us... that's a fact. Shrooms are so hard to come by where I live. I'm looking into growing them.

@Anthyrst I guess so, especially if you find In Flames' vocals appealing.

I don't get it, I like In Flames, I like Dark Tranquility... but I don't actually like this (Even though I hear from many that they should be better..) No hate though, sounds cool... just the vocals repel me. This odd?

tomas's lyrics are phenomenal on this album, if only they had persisted with the psilocybin induced psychosis for the rest of their career. when shadows threaten to swallow your weak soul, the key of light, the solution of all, i saw it clearly behind the veil of reality. and as i dreamt of lilies white, in the shade of a birch, they withered in the frost of awakening. shroomers know the score, straight up.

Great songs, I just hate the super scooped production on the album. Very muddy. I really love at the gates though.
