Annette Hanshaw - Nothin' (1927)

(1927 Handman / Turk) April 14, 1927 New York,

New York Pathé Actuelle 11471

Thursday 14th of April 1927, was a recordable day - I mean, I learned that a lot of bands recorded their music on that day. The Goofus Five with Chelsea Quealey recorded for Okeh, Roger Wolfe Kahn and his Hotel Biltmore Orchestra for Victor, featuring Eddie Lang on guitar, Sam Morgan appeared with his jazz band in the Columbia studios in New Orleans and Red Nichols was to be found in the New York studios of Pathé Actuelle with his Original Memphis Five featuring the great vocalist Annette Hanshaw.

Annette Hanshaw recorded on that day three sides with the Original Memphis Five, that had some great names in it, like Red Nichols on trumpet, Miff Mole on trombone, George Bohn on reeds, Frank Signorelli on piano and Ray Beauduc on drums. They recorded on this memorable day four sides: Play It, Red - Wistful And Blue - What Do I Care What Somebody Said? and Nothin' . The first tune was an instrumental recording without Annette Hanshaw.

@foxandbess This record is extremely rare. Even some of the most serious collectors don't have it... I mean it really... One of the rarest... This is probably the reason why you have never heard it before... We are extremely fortunate to hear this super nice recording in such a great condition and in a well restored version.

@Atticus70 Yes I have, obviously it`s better than the edmundusrex version but to me it`s not good enough (a slightly "underwater" quality) to post it. I will search for a much better version. Btw edmundusrex suggests in his clip that this song is recorded in 1932, nonsense...it`s from June 1927! Grtz, Aad

Do you have by any chance "Under The Moon" in good sound quality? The music in edmundusrex is unfortunately "dead" 'cause it's overequalized...

I'm dreaming of a CD issue of Annette's complete Perfect/Pathé Actuelle recordings in this sound quality. Thanks for posting...
