Only a small percentage of singers have had as much talent as Alma Cogan.

George Martin

In a Daily Mail interview, Cogan's sister Sandra, who was briefly linked to McCartney, claimed that Cogan had a serious romance with Lennon that had to be kept secret because of her family's strict Jewish faith. She needed a nice nose job...if i managed her i would have brought her to the states in 1964...with the beatles and the stones taking over radio play and record sales...alma was now square and unhip...but if she went to perform in las vegas, reno, miami beach with the audiences who loved sinatra, dean martin, sammy davis and the rat pack...she would have maintained her career...paul anka once a pop sensation did this and it saved his career....she died in 1966 from ovariaon cancer but i bet her resistance was lowered to to her in the toilet has been career....RIP

The girl with a laugh in her voice. Don't remember the Eric Winstone Bandshow but good to see the band in action. Remember listening to them on the radio in the 50's. Good arrangement by Wally Stott.

Thanks, guys! I borrowed that book from a friend a while ago. Your local library may have it. For Alma fans, it's a good read.

kabogga - you are correct. My intention was to thank littleshoemaker while also responding to you and I didn't word it right. I am 53 and just discovering Alma, so you've got a big lead on me ! So, THANKS Littleshoemaker, this is incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chkjns: You shouldn't be thanking ME for putting this music up. That accolade goes to littleshoemaker. For my sins, I became a Coganite quite late in life,(I was 34), Ironically that was the same age that Alma died. I have been hunting bookshops for her sister, Sandra Caron's book about her. It came out in 1991and and that time I was ignorant as to what an amazing talent Alma was. But as they say, he who hesitates is lost... My own fault really. :-(

Had to dig to learn: This was from a 1955 UK featurette. Seeing all the overflowing praise of her work has helped me fall in love with her music as well. But the band arrangement is incredible as well, and that's where most of a song's magic comes from for me ! ! ! My channel is a timewarp to the music of any past year. 100 playlists for music of each year the past century. SO glad to be able to add this to 1955 ! ! ! ! ! ! Thanks so much for putting this music up for us all to enjoy ! !

Alma in colour! Fantastic!!! But just imagine how this would have looked if HD television had been invented in Alma's day. Thinking about that is giving me palpitations! Pass the smelling salts! I think I'm going to faint! Lol!

yes I understand she was British...my musical background covers more than the U.S. I constantly am surprised how many artists did not make it in the U.S....so I write America was robbed....most peole read that as crystal clear.....other examples are Helen Shapiro and Craig Douglas, John Leyton, Billy Fury, to name a few....if you check your comment two months ago...you might understand...
