the reason it didn't stay alice n chains is because when jerry came in he thought it sounded to much like guns n roses and suggested they change it to alice in chains,had nothing to do with laynes mom or bondage / s and m besides why would layne be apprehensive about the band name and what his mom thinks when she already knew he was a herion addict? this is truly why the name was changed and this is why jerry says he owns and came up with the name.his solo records didn't do so well,so the only way to get people to pay attention was to resurrect the alice in chains name and create buzz,the new alice is nothing like the old alice and if jerry were smart he'd let William sing lead because he's a better singer,that being said new alice became popular again by name alone,if your a true alice fan then new alice is not what your looking for.

god, all these early songs pre-facelift are so amazing. aic they had it in them for a long time. layne's voice is at his best imo during these demo songs.

Layne gave up for good with the death of his woman he loved and shared that addiction as well. This was '96 and this is when he probably did know how to survive the deep pain and so he committed slow suicide. Deep within I don't believe he wanted to die. But went into a place to dark for light. May he have the peace his tortured soul longed for. And we should grateful be Layne lived and the legacy of his voice,humor,love of fans will never die.
