I heard somewhere that there was some kind of contractual thing with any bands that played on Late Night that they had to be accompanied by Paul Shafer's CBS Orchestra. Something to do with Dave's switch from NBC to CBS, or something like that. Otherwise, I'm sure AIC would've just done the damn thing themselves.
