Some Alex Chilton fans are probably mystified about why a singer like Alex Chilton would be impressed with Elvis. After all, Chilton was influential on bands like REM, the punk movement, the alternative independent music movement. You know, people that also took cues from Syd Barrett, Nick Drake and artists like that. But, Alex Chilton was born in Memphis, TN and his career started with The Box Tops -- in Muscle Shoals FAME studios in Alabama, American Sound Studios and I believe Trident Studios. All deep South studios with heroes like Steve Cropper and Elvis. Great artists like Chilton don't fall too far from their remarkable influences.
