Akercocke - Chapel of Ghouls (Morbid Angel Cover) from their 2007 album "Antichrist" bonus disk 2.

Lyrics:

Ghouls attack the church

Crush the holy priest

Turning the cross towards hell

Writhe in [sings "with"] satan's flames

Crush the priest

The feeble church

Dead - your god is dead

Fools - your god is dead

Useless prayers of lies

Behold satan's rise

Crush the priest

The feeble church

The family of dog

Lust upon my altar

Demons attack with hate

Satan in the fires of hell awaits

Death against you all

God hear my death call

I can listen to this cover. But I think akercocke's technical affinity wound up holding them back a little. That trebly thrashing sound Trey and Richard had is what made all of Altars special. So I guess doing it their own style didn't produce as good of a cover. That and the Antichrist sound (drums, guitar tones) wouldn't have made this cover as good as say the sound for Words that go Unspoken.

Morbid Angel's original version is one of my all time favorite Death Metal songs. Akercocke did an excellent cover of the song! I still prefer the original BUT this version is AMAZING as well!

@Rapedbyaclown666 The last Akercocke guitarist was a lot better and more chaotic, Willcock's ok but too many of his solos sound the same.

I must admit that the cover is much better than the original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@rashadpwnzuall Well a cover isn't supposed to be "better" than the original, it's just a tribute and a different take on the song by the band doing the cover/tribute.

This version is sick wicked. there's no lava though. Too many arpeggiated solo sequences and minor scale shit to sound like Trey's chaotic wailing.

@joaohenriques32353 i totally disagree and i'm sure there are a legion of metalheads who would say toherwise, including Ackercocke. remimber they are Tributing to Morbid Angel, thus they greatly respect Trey and Morbids work. to say such a thing is a slap in the face of death metal

Great cover. But it sounds like Putrid Pile is covering the tune. Sick vox either way. The solos tear major ass \m/

@joaohenriques32353 Yeah, man. That's what I feel towards this version. Fucking great solos, and I also dare say that the atmosphere of the original song is still here, but we cannot identify it due to the crystal clear production.

i think akercocke's words that go unspoken is a masterpiece....my fav album of the last 10 years...but this sucks..sorry

The vocals are short in places, as if he's missing out words. Cool cover though.

I like both bands I like morbid angel more cause that's just my opinion I think this is a valid cover, but the vox david vincent did were better, and the solos here are better it's all just artistic stylization, and if you knew why they were called akercocke you'd think it was cool, that and if you're so grossed out by naughty body parts then why do you listen to death metal?
