Ah, Holy JesusAh, holy Jesus, how hast thou offended, that man to judge thee hath in hate pretended? By foes derided, by thine own rejected, O most afflicted! Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon thee? Alas, my treason, Jesus, hath undone thee! 'Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied thee; I crucified thee. Lo, the Good Shepherd for the sheep is offered; the slave hath sinned, and the Son hath suffered. For our atonement, while we nothing heeded, God interceded. For me, kind Jesus, was thy incarnation, thy mortal sorrow, and thy life's oblation; thy death of anguish and thy bitter passion, for my salvation. Therefore, kind Jesus, since I cannot pay thee, I do adore thee, and will ever pray thee, think on thy pity and thy love unswerving, not my deserving.~ Johann Cruger, 1640

Move the recording mics away from the pipe case, for heaven's sakes!

This is my favorite Good Friday hymn. Thank you for posting. :-)I concur with aal49 that making the first and last chords major instead of minor is distracting. Odd choice, but this is still a nice performance.

The pipe organ is awesome! Talk of tossing this one out for an inferior one is simply ignorance!

Alot of times I will leave out the minor third in a minor hymn because to me it gives a very ancient feeling, but I would not leave it out every time, maybe one or two verses.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Tonight (March 29), we sang this as the Hymn of the Day at our Good Friday service. O most afflicted, I crucified thee, God interceded, For my salvation, Not my deserving. BTW, it is #349 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Thank you, Jesus.

Why does the organist leave out the minor third on the 1st and last chords of each verse? Find it a little distracting.
