Pop Memories-charted track, not elsewhere on YouTube as of this posting. Four years earlier, Decca music director Gordon Jenkins had struck gold with the simple waltz tune "Goodnight Irene," lushly-arranged for the folk-singing Weavers. In similar fashion, he produced this sentimental waltz for folk figure Burl Ives, though with less spectacular results. "True Love Goes On And On" peaked at #23 on the national singles chart (Cash Box) in the spring of '54 and re-charted briefly in 1964.
The song was written by the team of Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, who had recently composed Tony Bennett's #1 record "Rags To Riches" and would soon enthrall Broadway with their musical scores for "The Pajama Game" and "Damn Yankees."
CD audio, originally issued on 45/78rpm: Decca 29088, reissued on Decca 31571 - True Love Goes On And On (Adler-Ross) by Burl Ives, orchestra and chorus conducted by Gordon Jenkins, recorded March 9, 1954
