John Frusciante - Scratches

Album: Inside Of Emptiness (2004)

Inside of Emptiness is the sixth album by John Frusciante, and the fourth album of a six album series released from June 2004 to February 2005. It features Josh Klinghoffer and Omar Rodríguez-López as guest musicians.

Recorded in March and published in October 2004, John's fastest album to date might as well be the first one to think of when someone who hasn't followed his career and who's a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers asks what to start with. From the distorted hot rocking beats of What I Saw to the melancolic falsetto of Scratches, with the floor vibrating from the screams in 666 and hearts melting at the warmth and openess of I'm Around and cruel reality of Look On, the song which features one of John's best guitar solos ever; Inside Of Emptiness is most likely the album where no skipping will occur, no matter who you are. Lyrically, just like all of John's other albums, it is much more complex. According to the author himself, three songs on the album were written while thinking about British occultist/mystic Aleister Crowley. Some of the music critics are refering to Inside Of Emptiness as something similar to what Shadows Collide With People would sound had it been unpolished and more raw. On the other side, this is obviously album where the electric guitar dominates, unlike on SCWP where each song has an accoustic guitar as the base instrument. Apart from usual contributor Josh Klinghoffer, the album also features a guest appearance of The Mars Volta's guitarist, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and therefore the first of two times he and John experimented with what John called "joined guitars". Introverted, yet somewhat furious, slow-speaking yet unstoppable as he's always been; John'd created yet another memorable chapter in the history of modern rock music.

Lyrics:

(One, two, three, four)

The scratches of a dark night

The rashes of foresight

And I wanted you, oh-oh-uh

The weight of my freezing

I had come to you

The face I was given

I have no similarities to

The spaces in the law look

Like the faces in a word book

I get by,

I get by

The matches of opportunities

The last thing I've never seen

And I scream to you, oh-uh

The pain I was needing (oooh)

Was sort of true

The one aim I was clearing (oooh)

Was the walls that grew

The crazes I overlooked

The leans into the cook

And I did,

And I did

And I was screaming bloody murder

And I was one with pain

And I stopped by the road side

'Cuz this is from where I came

My God but it's so far away

It would seem accidents have gone straight to you

And you've changed your point of view

And the places you're going to

I got crowded,

I get crowded

And I'm so glad that you're mine

It twists up the fabric of time

And I'm useless,

Yes, I'm useless

And your faces are bodies

And your hands are feet

Let me roll around

In things I can't believe

But I tried

Yes I tried

And I tried

You know I tried

* The "I was one with pain" line is "when the charges came" in the official lyrics.

He said that he didn't have anything more to give to the band and he's trying to move on musically and do new stuff. I miss him too but you can't force him with a gun, huh ? And his solo stuff > The Chilis anyway.

No I didn't mean something like "The John Frusciante Experience" just the people he records with like Joe Lally, Josh, Omar or Flea to join him so they can tour togetherand help him play his songs live.

Witching Speärbreaker

perhaps he don't want to be part of a such a band, that would probadly named "John Frusciante+[something placed her]" ... And there's another reason, hes a jimi Hendrix fan, maybe it could be that he hate the thought of people connect this with Jimi ... my thoughts my guesses PS: maybe he don't want to play "his" songs with another musicians most of them are deep songs
