To Cody Stewart- it won't let me tag you for some stupid reason...- I am actually a piano player and have been doing music theory for a number of years. I play bass guitar, violin, piano, and acoustic guitar. I am a singer and have sang in my high school band, church group and on stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio. I never said my opinion meant more than anyone else's and I would HATE myself if I EVER said that, because I actually find myself quite worthless. You just choose to fight the fact that some of the pop artists nowadays actually have amazing voices and musical talent. So excuse me for having an opinion. Have a great day :)

Answer me this, do you have an opinion that isn't negative? If you didn't listen to (awesome though it is) metal (and all of it's genre affiliates) 24/7 and tried expanding your musical spectrum, that angst might disappear!

I do, in fact, have knowledge of music theory. I have, in fact, sung in a chorus. And, I do, in fact, play four instruments... My desire in making that point was not to be shot down by someone like you. Instead, I was just stating a fact. Every musician, singer, etc. has artistic value.

Man.....there are a lot of people that can sing, especially in Australia. You should hear us all around the camp fire we can hold a tune and with a bit of training and auto tune we could sound decent enough. Now if you add that to great looks, sex appeal, publicity and some writers to write a catchy pop song you can please the lowest common denominator and get rich and famous. Artists like FTM etc are so far apart from the pop industry it's insulting that they are both called 'artists'.

I would call both Katy Perry and Justin Bieber 'good vocalists' but not amazing musicians, only because I doubt either of them writes music. This may sound anal, but i think it frames why Fair To Midland and other bands are so awesome: they find their own voice, and while they may have producers affect their music...the band works together to create a sound..I listen to Katy Perry, and I would dance to Justin Bieber's music, but I would not put them in the same category as FTM. FTM FTW.
