This is the ORIGINAL Awakening with the bass played by Dexter Redding (Son of Otis Redding). So it was NOT originally created by Les Claypool.

It was written and composed by The Reddings in 1980.

I like the outro, where they play a snippet of John Cage's 4'33" :)

Pretty good tune, but the Claypool version has a better swing, and is a much cleaner and smoother performance. I'll definitely check out more of these guys. :)

Bad Sound Quality??? I got 2 Quadral SAM 02 Speakers - Just take the english Sound Setting (Volume Poti totally to the right) - It works *** Thanks to Uwe Werner (my former Bassman) for showing me this Tune once upon the time - Real good things never get forgotten***

There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side. And the light.

I never knew this song that I learned to play over 30 years ago would still be the object of so much attention. I still have my album of The Awakening by The Reddings and almost played a hole in it back in the day. First of all, the bass is overdubbed but only the chords and some harmonic sections. The main bass part is straight to tape I'm sure. Once I figured out what a harmonic was, trying to get it to bend was another story. But I figured out you could hit the harmonic and press down on the bass string before the nut at the top of the head stock. The type of bass you have will give you different results. Dexter played a Music Man Stingray bass on this tune. I saw them live at Chicagofest back in the 80's and The Awakening was the opening tune and they just tore it up. Dexter's bass tone was awesome and reminded me of Louis Johnson. Dexter is the real deal!

I like Jay Lanes drumming better but this bass track is cooler than any rendition I've heard by Claypool. Someone should mix the two!
