Simon began singing in his father's church in Richmond, Calif. before joining The Golden West Gospel Singers. The group decided to turn secular and recorded "Little Island Girl" as the Golden Tones in 1959. Simon went solo in 1963 and moved to Chicago, Illinois to pursue a secular musical career at Veejay Records. When Veejay folded, Simon relocated to Memphis, Tenn. There he was picked up by Monument Records' subsidiary label Sound Stage 7 in 1966. Simon enjoyed a good singing career while at Sound Stage 7 with several hit records. He soon moved to Polydor's Spring Records label in 1970 and continued his career with great success. In the late 1970s, Simon decided to take his voice away from the secular music world and devote it and his life to religion. Simon now does evangelist preaching in Flossmoor, Illinois.

During the 1950s and 1960s, there was NO more influential person in R&B music at the highest levels than "John R." Richbourg from WLAC-AM, Nashville. John R.'s contacts did wonders for Joe Simon's career.

Good song! Took the words right out of my mouth... Sometimes you have to let go in order to find what you lost..or maybe it was something so rare that it's forever out of reach. Thanks... Ronnie
