The period of 1926-33 spawned a particular minor 'sound' which was taken over in 1934 by the big bands. The Boswell sisters were part of this great period.

Actually bass and drums are both on this track. Remember, the recording techniques of this era consisted of hanging a microphone central to the band and then the Boswell Sisters would be miked or just lean into the overhead mike, Still, I can hear the bass line underneath and the drummer is using brushes. The Boswell Sisters were jazz singers and as such would have always opted to have a rhythm section backing them if available.
