Now y'all know why I had my crush on Vicki Peterson, though I love all four of them. Letterman's crew, with Paul Shaffer leading, were some of New York's best studio musicians; a couple of run-throughs with the girls and they were set, but these four always prided themselves as a fully-contained band. Later, they added off-stage keyboards and such when needed.

It's been decades. OMG! But seriously, this works so well on so many levels because the ladies aren't encumbered with their instruments and are free to dance. I dare say it's probably the only [ONLY] performance ever shown in this manner. And don't they look like they're having some fun with it as well? That bit of satisfaction is worth savoring. I think the biggest issue with their performing without instruments on a major television program is that it suggests they are phonies -- a kind of modern Girl Group, where all the instruments are played by session musicians.But as we all know, the gals were -- and are -- terrifically talented musicians. They should have showed that off nationwide.
