Whose to say that this album is most true to his personality? He released countless "cute folk stage" albums and very few albums akin to The Age of Adz. People try to box him into this and that and it really draws away from the fact that Sufjan is an artist, a musician, a person who is allowed to toy around and experiment.

radiohead is one of my favorite bands of all time, and sufjan is one of my favorite modern pop composers... how is anything on the age of adz like radiohead's electronic music?! completely different styles.

I honestly think this is his most 'Sufjan' album to date. The whole album is a personal journey of sorts as Sufjan the Human, not Sufjan the Musician. The fact everyone got upset that this album shook their perceptions of who he is probably means they were infatuated with his cute folk stage allure and deluded themselves. Who can honestly say they know Sufjan as a person even after they've listened to this album?

Why does everyone throw a fit whenever this guy does something slightly controversial with music? He forgets about the bango and people are whining about wanting the 'old' Sufjan back. He drops the f-bomb and a bunch of high-and-mighties shake their pious heads. He writes a song with a vague message about Christianity and faith and a bunch of deity-hating hipsters rear their ugly heads. Why can't everyone accept that there is no such thing as 'the Sufjan we all know' and listen to the music?
