@tonyins67 Thank you, I am just an outsider, I have listened to all the "greats" who are inducted in the Hall, list of 100 "Greatest"etc. NO DOUBT in my mind, Slade were the undisputed best and most versatile band EVER. Most REAL tunes, IN most GENRES. I AM JEALOUS THAT YOU HAVE SEEN THEM 32 TIMES LIVE WOW, BUT GREAT TO HEAR THAT FROM YOU!!! The media has completely overlooked and spoiled them, that is why they are and were entirely mispercepted as a gimmick by the prejudist public opinion.

@ajsmith311 you got that spot on SLADE never liked by the media but loved by anyne who saw them play live, I managed that 32 times and got great memories and my ears took a battering but I would love to see the original line up again, but that will never happen...worse luck KOR

@carlphone I still have much of the album to hear but Watching the Wheels and I'm Losing You showed just how great John Lennon's music may have become. Talking back to Slade, just been listening to The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome - cannot believe it only peaked at #49 in the UK. I've always believed the name and artwork may have put people off but I've never known another album to have two top 10 hits and still not peak in the top #30 at least.

@ajsmith311 Fully agreed!!! Much better than today s music, with a few exceptions here and there! I will check Double Fantasy.....

@carlphone Yes I've heard the story of the name. So many groups are influenced by Slade in one way or the other. As for the Beatles, I've never really listened to much of their work but the stuff I've heard isn't bad - just not something I would be too fond of. I've heard plenty of covers though from the artists I listen to. Cheap Trick have done a few for example and they're decent. The stuff i've heard from John Lennon's Double Fantasy album is actually very good. Beats modern music anyway

@ajsmith311 Okay, yeah they are great muscians and you know how they have come up with their name??? Most young people are supposed and educeted to be Beatles "conformists" as they are supposedly be the "best", most influential etc., where do you put them?

Ashley Smith

@carlphone The next band I came across was Cheap Trick and I've collected their stuff since. So I would say them.

@ajsmith311 True that, they have exploited the synths brilliantly, I am just so pleased that they did not turn to heavy matal, guitar driven hardrock but instead made this beautiful gospel/anthem stuff... maybe becoz they were an in studio band after 1983... I am just guessing. What would be number 2 of your favorite band of all time???

Ashley Smith

@carlphone Of course their latere albums were heavy on synth which I actually thought worked really well. You Boyz favourites for me are Fools Go Crazy and Sing Shout (Knock Yourself out). The whole album's great although I think Rogues was more stronger overall. Little Sheila, 7 Year Bitch, Harmony etc - all great.

@ajsmith311 I see, you had not commented there so I suspected it is not your number 1 in your book... fair enough, there has to be some difference in taste, when I heard it one or 2 times, I found it sort of unreal, as of it was not Slade, still, I think it is simply genius, so slick and, is there anything that comes close or sounds similar? I am very fond of this type of "choir engineering" Queen and Beach Boys have done that too, but the 'depth" and rythem are simly much less developed, IMHO.

@carlphone Must admit The Roaring Silence wasn't my most played track on You Boyz but over the last year I've become quite fond of it. Mixes the bands vocals together really brilliantly - something they done well on other singles like My oh My etc.

@ajsmith311 I will keep an eye on the Wiki pages, it is highly appreciated here becoz these magnificent songs deserve more attention. It is ridiculous that Rogues Gallery, a masterpiece of music art, only reached #60. Superlatives are not enough to describe the quality of it for me. Their last 3 albums are so supurb and sophisticated, that I find it hard to find any other artist or band that makes a real impact on me, since I have known Slade. What do you think of the "Roaring Silence"?

15 years назад

Ashley Smith

@carlphone Both Rogues Gallery and You Boyz were my first Slade albums and they do remain my favourites out of their career, probably Rogues Gallery slightly more. Only reached #60 in the UK. Recently, I noticed that loads of Slade's singles did not have an article on wikipedia so i've been working hard on them. Tracks like Universe, Myzsterious Mizster Jones etc now have their own article and i've added some info on the small few that already existed.

@ajsmith311 Good to hear, I am 44 and from Holland, I am just an outsider, but I have heard all their albums and I agree, I have also listenend to 1000 bands or more but for me this band simply has to have made the most greatest tunes in the widest range of sounds and genres... Rogues Gallery I consider the best album ever and it did not even chart!!! This fantsastic song was not even uploaded... Till 42, I only knew Merry X-Mas, imagine, so you have found out 26 years earlier than me! Cheers!

@carlphone Has to be my top band of all time. I'm only 16 and first found Slade when I wa about 10. They were my childhood. I listen to plenty of 80s stuff too but Slade come out first.

@ajsmith311 Sorry I am a bit quick to respond, I am amazed that this band is so underrated and overlooked over the years, I suspect that Slade certainly have the songs, quality, live act and the depth and diversity in styles etc. to be ranked among the ultimate top 5 bands of all time... What do you think?
