Do Not Look Down is my favourite song from Meshuggah's new album Koloss. It's a very groovy, heavy piece and really enjoyable to play. With this cover I really wanted to play Tomas's performance note for note. There are so many well placed accents and crashes throughout the entire song and I did my best not to miss any of them. It was very easy to play my own fills and add my own crashes but again I wanted to play exactly what I heard. I set up another set of hats under the ride to solely play open in the various sections so I could bounce around on the main hats with my foot to really sit in the groove. This made the kick pattern slightly harder as it was then to be played all on the right foot.

Hope you all enjoy as much as I have! Feel free to contact me on facebook with any questions.

Cheers Troy Wright

The main polyrhythm is 17 over 4. Essentially, the hihat/crash plays a constant 4, feet accent the guitars, and snare stays with the 4. It's set up in such away that the 17 is 16+1, which when repeated 4 times ends up being 4*16+4*1, so it works out being nice while still sounding wacky. ...You'll just have to repeat the measure 17 times.Fun fact: 17 can be substituted with any number, and you can do the same thing, you'll just have to add on that number minus 16 extra measures of four.Trying it out with 19, you get 3 leftover beats/measure from 16, so when you repeat it four times, you get 3*4=12 leftover beats, meaning you have to repeat the whole thing 7 times.(I should also add I'm using 16 and 4 pretty interchangeably here, so please don't flay and eat my liver, theory nerds.)

Don't let the 'metal' tag confuse you, the genius of Meshuggah can be heard from 3:08 to 3:55. Killer groove, killer riff and nothing fancy from Fredrik, just the perfect notes (guitar solo, sort of) complimenting the entire thing. One of my favorite M tunes.Yo!

So I had two tabs open, and even though I was paying attention to the music, I totally forgot that it was a drum cover! Well done, Troy!

It might've been easier to learn this song if I knew how to read sheet music. Oh well. Got it anyway I guess.

This is so well done man! Such a groove this song has, and yet that kick pattern just twists my brain up. Glad I found this cover, now to watch all your others!
